カナダのスタートアップである OneGigabit社が、1GbpsのFTTHの提供をアナウンス。カナダのアベレージと比べて60倍の速さに相当するとあるので、既存回線の標準的な速度は1.6Mbps程度ということになる。この企業を、プライベートなインベスターが2社、支援している。

The company says it is already building connections for a condo developer and a real estate company, and claims to be disrupting the "near-monopoly telecom incumbents in Canada."

独占的な大手キャリアのマーケットに、スタートアップがチャレンジをしている。日本のSo-netも引き合いに出されているが、世界中でこういったスタートアップによるギガビットなファイバーへの取り組みが行われている、という。
